Many women find it difficult to return to their previous level of fitness and overall well-being postpartum.
A few key elements of returning to a healthy level of functioning is to do core-strengthening to avoid “diastasis rectus” which is a separation of the abdominal wall muscles, as well as Kegel strengthening to avoid issues related to incontinence postpartum (leaking urine).
Both of these things are improved by following a plan with a physiotherapist.
In Calgary, Lakeview Physiotherapy is particularly good with pelvic physio. In Okotoks, there is a group that does classes (https://physiofitmoms.com), including online, that many of my patients have really appreciated.
